Use any prompt in five minutes
The words in brackets are the work. Specific context beats clever wording.
A repeatable five-step method
- 1Replace brackets. State the real goal, audience, source material, constraints, and output you need.
- 2Add one example. When format or tone matters, show a short acceptable example and explain what makes it good.
- 3Request assumptions. Ask the model to list missing information and assumptions before it completes high-impact work.
- 4Review the draft. Check facts, calculations, citations, tone, completeness, permissions, and fit for your context.
- 5Improve one variable. If the result misses, change the context, constraints, example, or output format—not everything at once.
The six-part prompt shape
Role + Goal + Context + Constraints + Output + Check. You do not need every part every time, but missing context and review criteria cause more problems than missing “magic words.”

Draft an email to [audience] whose goal is [outcome]. Context: [facts]. Include [required points]. Keep it under [length], use a [tone] tone, and end with one clear next action. If information is missing, mark it [NEEDS INPUT] instead of guessing.
Check before use: Check names, dates, commitments, attachments, and whether the ask is actually clear.
